What are some key
fall trends you have seen on the
runway? And what specific
accessories are winning
the day?
Eclecticism has been
in fashion for some time now,
with accessories getting a lot of
attention. There are those that
are pushing the minimalist edge
while others evoke a celebratory
feel reminiscent of the 70s spirit.
Even though clunky is still in for
handbags and shoes, collections
are showing sleeker, finer
bags too and very understated
shoes like the new mule
from Chanel.
What colours,
materials and embellishments
are you seeing on accessories?
There is a lot of colour for
fall: burgundy, crimson red, rust.
And a tribal feel is being thrown
into some prints and blanket
coats. American Indian motifs
are making a big comeback.
Expect to see plenty of velvet for

shoes and handbags. These
rich warm colours that not only
make us feel positive but secure
and powerful.
Do accessory trends in
Canada differ from trends in the
United States, europe or Asia?
No, not at all. As a
society, we may be more conservative,
but with so many levels of
fashion available to us, the kids
on the streets here are every bit
as hip as kids on the streets of
Hong Kong. International borders
have dissipated and fashion has
become a universal language.
Every day consumers around the
globe are digesting the same
fashion information, reading all
the same magazines and
getting the same style message
and aspiring to great style,
available at every price point.
What we are witnessing is the
democratization of fashion.
