PHOTO BY STEFANE BERUBE A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR SPRING IS IN THE AIR I love this time of year. The snow is melting, the first buds are appearing on the trees... It's a time of renewal, and typically, this is a natural opportunity to brighten your home and refresh your wardrobe. To that end, Edmonton is bursting with stylish ideas, if you know where to look. For your home interior, we've located some great shops and accessories and WHERE Magazine insiders share their personal picks (pg 18). We also reveal some posh fashion spots. Now, I'm not a fashionista who passionately follows the latest trends and expertly pulls together an outfit with nary a fashion fauxpas. But like most, I have a sense of what looks good and I get a thrill out of finding special pieces for my wardrobe. This is what boutique shopping is all about, and our boutiques are home to some very good fashionistas who delight in helping you look your best. I even met one who will take you on a chauffeured tour through the city's top shopping destinations (pg 32). In this issue, you'll notice that fashion, art, and home décor often converge: a Modernera furniture design that lives on in a current shoe style (pg 31); dramatic jewellery that is fashioned from art (pg 12); art that finds expression in fashionable food-stylish food that takes its cue from designer clothing (pg 15); and a clothing boutique that looks like a home interior (cover). Read on to discover some of our city's best-kept shopping secrets. I may not be a fashionista, but I know where they live. - SHAUNA RUDD I welcome your comments and suggestions. This latest stand-up routine from one of the world's most sought-after comedians recently made an appearance at Montreal's 2011 Just for Laughs comedy festival-in front of a soldout audience for its entire 10-night run. In his casual, easygoing style, Danny shares hilarious globetrotting antics, follies, and quick-witted observations-including an embarrassing backstage encounter on the Late Show with David Letterman-all through a jaunty boyish grin and Scottish accent. (Not to be confused with Irish; a few moments on YouTube will reveal Danny's wickedly clever clarification...). He's been known to weave in brilliant improvisation as he banters with the audience. But even as he's taking the piss out of anyone who unwittingly gives him an inch, he does so with such grace it hardly feels like ribbing... it's more like you're out having a pint with friends. Though the premise of world travel may seem an easy target for comedic material, this guy could talk about Canadian tax regulation and leave you in tears-from laughter, for once. Winspear Centre; $36.50-$41.50. Call 780-428-1414 for tickets. PHOTO COURTESY WESTERN CANADA FASHION WEEK
