Well it may still be so hot outside, but you can tell it’s fall with all the football chatter!! I know This Girl’s Ready for Some Football!! Fortunately for me I grew up in Oklahoma, moved to Dallas after high school and have lived on the Gulf Coast for 20 years, so it always makes for an interesting outing to local sports bars!! BIG FAN OF OU (Oklahoma University), Dallas COW‐ BOYS, & when the Cowboys aren’t playing the New Orleans Saints, then I’m a Big Fan of THE SAINTS..LOL...So you can imagine the fun‐friendly banter I get into when watching some great games with those who like the opposite teams!! BOOMER SOONERS ~ DA BOYS ~ WHO DAT for me!!! LOL!!!! With all the football chatter, our September issue just wouldn’t be right without sharing not only our special “Coast Is Ready for Some Football” section to let you know what all our advertisers are doing for football to let you enjoy the experience even more, but also one of our favorite sports bars, Rafters!! We always loved their old location, but we love their new location in Gulf Shores even more!! Make sure you stop by and take advantage of all their game day specials happening all season long!! It’s no secret that we have been a big fan of City Grill since our 1st issue 3 years ago!! Now we have even more reasons to love them with their new location that is probably about 3 times the size, still serving some of the best gourmet dishes to ever cross our palette, and now they have a fantastic sushi bar that is has become the rave since they reopened their doors!! We’re gonna share with you their exciting new menu next month, but our bar/nightclub writer Kelli Parris stopped by there so we could share their new bar area with you in this issue!! w Check out our Review on Diamond Jim’s & Mrs Donna’s w Alabama Coastal Triathlon w West Beach Grille Football Giveaways w Bulls on the Beach w Reachin’ Inside to Touch Your Soul w Paddleboard Rentals w Parasailing w Sailing w Waverunner & Jet Ski Rentals w Go Carts w Hot Air Balloon Rides w Miniature Golf w Zoo w Dine at our Restaurant Advertisers Golf Courses Page 15 Museums & Historic Sites Page 15 August 19 saw the opening of Lucy Buffett’s newest venture, Lucy B. Orange Beach, ALThere is a new diamond in the rough ya’ll. Diamond Jim and Mrs. Donna’s brought their famous steaks and seafood to Orange Beach a year ago, with their original location in Livingston already stealing the hearts of many Alabamians! God blessed them with the perfect location for their second adventure on Canal Rd. Just before the Orange Beach exit. Formerly known as the Tiki, a localsvenue, many locals and tourists alike have been packing out the new location. An old ranch style house converted into a dining/bar venue, I do believe that the couple of 45 years had definetly found a perfect spot to do what they do so well!! Flame grilled steaks, the freshest seafood, homemade dressings and desserts, in a funfamily oriented atmosphere! As it states on their website... “Diamond Jim's and Mrs. Donna's is a family owned business, serving up the best food around. We only serve USDA Choice Midwestern Beef, aged for taste and tenderness. Our steaks are hand cut and marinated in our special seasons and cooked on a charcoal grill. We also serve fresh local Gulf seafood in our homemade batter as well as our special recipe twice baked potatoe casserole. Our restaurant in Livingston has been a favorite family dining tradition for several years, and we are proud to now offer the best hand cut, grilled to perfection steaks and seafood to Pleasure Island residents and visitors. We are now open daily from 4:30 pm until everyone is fed, so come check us out and see why patrons describe us as "Excellent steakhouse food in a comfortable homey environment coupled with friendly staff and reasonable prices" and may say ours is "The BEST Steak I've ever had".” You might not know that this all began years ago with Mrs Donna and her mothernlaw selling their homemade cake sensations at market once a week. Look at’em now, Diamond Jim was flipping over 300 steaks a night in Livingston, can you imagine what he’ll be doing in Orange Beach by next summer?!! Diamond Jim’s flamegrilled steaks are Perfection!! But, it’s not only about the steaks, let me tell ya... We began with a perfect West Indies Salad Mrs. Donna’s own marinated blue crab claw and lump crab over a bed of lettuce. Amazingly delicious in it’s simplicity, we savored every bite as Cassidy served us an enormous order of perfectly battered, fried Blue Crab Claws. Served with homemade cocktail or tartar sauce, the lightly dredged claws needed no accompaniment, they were outstanding as served! Her homemade tartar sauce serves as the base for her deliciously creamy and crisp cold slaw. And then, bangbang, boomboom, BAM!!A Shrimp Mrs. Donna’s version, lightly dredged and seasoned with the fabulous spicycreamy sauce. They were fresh, you could really taste the shrimp, we loved’em!! Diamond Jim and Mrs. Donna were very gracious in making sure we had plenty and that we would indulge ineverything, just about!! Wonderful salads, sandwiches, poboys and BBQ to choose from, we opted for the choicest of the entrees. Within minutes we were presented with Grilled Catch of the Day (Wahoo) smokey and moist, lightly glazed in teriyaki, served with a fresh veggie medley of green beans, broccoli, summer squash and red peppers! There was so much flavor in this delectable wahoo! The steamed vegetables were soooo fresh and savory. Next we had the grilled Teriyaki Chicken Breast boneless, topped with pineapple, devinely moist! Waiting on the steaks we had a huge plate of hand cut, perfectly seasoned fresh hand cut french fries. Next, a half pound of Alaskan Snow Crab legs huge clusters, sweet and easy to remove, yummy, I didn’t even want butter to miss a hint of the flavor! We’ve been super pleased with our surf and bird, I can’t wait to try their infamous steaks!! Diamond Jim’s Famous Ribeye a super sized16 18oz cut, medium rare with twice baked potato casserole. The flavor of this handcut steak was more then sensational, there’s nothing like a charcoal grill to enhance a masterpiece! And the Twice Baked Potato Casserole, OMG, fabulous! We also gorged on Mrs. Donna’s Filet Mignon one of the largest Filet cuts we have ever seen, 10oz slab of bacon wrapped, lean, grilled morsel of heaven! They also offer Big Mike’s King Cut Ribeye 2426oz, if you dare! You can also share a plate for a minimal charge including two extra sides, or, add any seafood. Moaning and miserably full, before we could say, “no way,” we were plied with sugar confections of heavenly tastes! Chocolate cake with fudge icing and yellow cake with caramel icing. Both moist cakes with rich icings, made of course, by Mrs Donna. Again, both were fantabulous!!! We will be back on our own time and, I will try Mrs. Donna’s Gumbo and the 2426oz ribeye! I have big eyes on this “Diamond!!” I see much success happening here!! Check it out for the greatest eats from mom’s kitchen to pop’s grill, to your mouth!! Muah!! Until Next Month!! ^xÄÄç
