NONAMECOLUMN MAY 2011 Denis Snow Greg Adler President & C.E.O. 4 / ORA MAY 2011 BILL MAULDIN STAMP HONORS GRUNTS' HERO A little something for all of us fans of "Old Iron" military vehicles, and Operation Light Sabre. I didn't know about this until recently, but the U.S. Postal Service issued a stamp last year honoring Bill Mauldin. Mauldin was a soldier in Europe during WWII and became famous for his cartoons depicting American infantry soldiers represented by the characters, Willie and Joe, two war weary foot soldiers. His cartoons were widely circulated among the soldiers and the folks back home in the States really bringing the realities of the war home. SHARE YOUR ADVENTURES WITH US While you're cruising around the internet, please check out ORA's Facebook page at, facebook.com/ORAmagazine. We've got over 6,000 fellow off-roading enthusiasts sharing their stories, rigs and favorite trails. We've also have ongoing contests for prizes like 4 Wheel Parts Gift Cards and products from some of our advertisers. Check us out! PRESIDENT'SCORNER 4WP'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION This month we are kicking off our 50th Anniversary celebration with a story in the magazine. First, we start with a look back on the history of Transamerican Auto Parts/4 Wheel Parts. It's a great story about how this all started from a humble beginning. This is Part 1 of a 3-part series focused from 1961 through the mid-eighties. To continue the celebration, we are announcing our 50th Anniversary Jeep Giveaway. That's right - we will be building up and giving away a 1961 Jeep CJ-5 and a 2011 Jeep JK. The buildups begin next month, so stay tuned. Gas prices are in the news again thanks to the Middle East crisis. Hopefully, by the time you read this, things have stabilized in those countries primarily for the citizens there and secondarily for our gas prices. Meanwhile, we have to get to work and get out to our favorite trails, so check out great ways to improve fuel mileage and engine performance with our huge Buyers Guide in this issue. If you make your home in Texas, then don't miss out on our 4WP Truck & Jeep Fest as the show rolls through Dallas at the Market Hall on May 14-15. The next weekend, the show heads south to Houston for the second annual event at the Reliant Center on May 21-22. Come meet the top manufacturers in the industry, see the newest products first hand, and take advantage of great deals! Team 4 Wheel Parts race fans can check out my King of the Hammers rig in this month's issue. The team is still feeling good from our top 5 finish out there! It's a 1994 Chevy 1500 with over 200,000 miles, and still gets beat on each year. It has a 6" Rough Country lift with Nitro shocks. It's sitting on 35x13.5x15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, with 15x10 Cragar Soft 8 wheels. The motor is stock until he scrapes up some money for it. I know he would be thrilled if he saw his truck in your magazine. Thanks guys, Clay Davidson A COUPLE OF WACKS WITH A BODY HAMMER AND, VOILA' IT'S DONE This is my '98 Dodge Dakota 5.2 318 V8 4x4. Since then I bought the front bumper and I built the rear bumper, light bar, and tailgate at my high school. For performance parts I've got a SuperChip, K&N air intake, MSD 8mm wires, and 31x9.50/15 Super Swamper TSL radials. Slade S. p

8 / ORA MAY 2011 Up front, a custom Dana 60 houses a Detroit locker, 5.13:1 G2 ring & pinion gears and CTM 300 axles. Positive directional control is maintained via a PSC hydraulic ram powered by a Howe power steering pump. Tucked in behind a small front stinger is a narrowed Warn 9500 winch, wrapped with synthetic line. Providing traction and keeping Race Force One in contact with terra firma is a set of 39-inch BFGoodrich Krawlers wrapped around Raceline Monster Beadlocks. Adler said, "The Krawlers went up everything." Note the thoughtful valve stem guard added to the beadlocks.

W 4 Wheel Parts Pres' Greg Adler's Presidential Ride By Chris Collard e've all heard of Air Force and Marine One, it's the moniker given to the swanky Boeing 747s and Marine helicopters the President of the United States cruises around in. But have you heard of Race Force One? Probably not. Unless that is, you attended the 2011 Griffin King of the Hammers (KOH) and glimpsed a black and yellow blur of dust flash past you. If you did, it was probably Race Force One - and behind the wheel was 4 Wheel Parts President Greg Adler, foot firmly planted on the skinny peddle in hot pursuit of the checkered flag. We caught up with the President and his Executive Cabinet a few days before the race and were able to steal away with his prize buggy for a few hours. By all accounts, highjacking the executive ride is highly prohibited, in defiance to 4WP security policy, and surely punishable under some hidden corporate bylaw (possibly firing the thief/freelance guy). At all risks, we wanted to give you a closer look at what the leader of the free-wheeling world drives when he peels off his executive hat, slips on a helmet, and goes tire-to-tire with the best rock racers and desert dogs in the country. With extensive experience in short course and desert racing, Adler, oops, I meant, Mr. President, gained a penchant for crossover racing when he entered KOH in 2009. Running an old-school rock crawler, his successes were marginal... okay, he broke, rolled over (sometimes pAbove the tranny tunnel rides a B&M Pro Street Shifter, cutting brake levers and controls for the Atlas II transfer case. qAt each corner, dampening and levitation are controlled by Sway-A-Way Race Runner coil-over shocks. The rear also received a set of custom bypass units, and McKenzies limiting straps prevent over extension of the system. MAY 2011 ORA / 9
