FROM THE ED ITOR What is one of the greatest gifts ever bestowed upon us as human beings? Here?s a hint: It catapults us to the pinnacle of the hierarchy of living things by far-outreaching the complexities of animalistic instinct. It extends beyond the breadth of the five senses and even surmounts the intricacies of complicated thought and reasoning. It is love. It seems only fair that we, the lone living creatures who are so fully able to embrace this raw and dense emotion, make the most of our gift by expending and accepting love in great measure. Don?t you think? The month of February, and the 14th in particular, are staid cultural reminders encouraging us to renew and reaffirm our love for one another. And there?s certainly no harm in that. But I say that we should strive to make Valentine?s Day a year-round event. I?m not suggesting that each day be confettied with rose petals and candy hearts?quite the opposite actually. Instead of masquerading outward signs of our affections for a mere 24-hour holiday, why not make it a point, as often as we?re able, to genuinely relay that love to each other?just because. Everyday we should kiss our husbands and tell them how happy they make us, hug our children and let them know they?re the light in our lives, thank our friends for being our unfailing confidants and share our steadfast love of family with the mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings who have molded us into the people we are. I hope as you flip through the pages of Blush this month, you?ll find information that reports and inspires acts of love around you; from a local woman who teaches young girls how to love themselves (pg. 28) to wedding tips for those who are headed for the altar (pg. 32), to budget-friendly ideas for a getaway to the city of love (pg. 60). You can acquire simple tips for adding romance to your relationship (pg. 44), read up on the puppy-love you share with your pet (pg. 58) and get ideas for eco-friendly Valentine gifts that show your love for our Earth. There?s something for everyone, because after all, love is the one thing we all have in common. Take the time to show others how much you care and let?s work to make this the year of the Valentine. february 09 LETTERS Dear Blush, I just wanted to let you know I truly love Blush magazine. The articles are great and I love how the ads highlight places in our area. Please keep the magazine coming each month?it really is fabulous! 6 ?Shelly Lynn February 2009 My wife Lynn and I visit Chattanooga about every other month. In fact, we plan to retire there, hopefully soon. While we visit, she always picks up your magazine to bring home and read. She is always telling me how much she enjoys everything about it. Heck, this last issue (January) she read it out loud on the way home to Gadsden. Is there any way I can get the magazine delivered to our home in Gadsden? If you can?t, I understand, which means more trips to Chattanooga for us. Not a bad problem at all I must say. We would just like to know what is going on in our favorite city. We will be at the Choo Choo for Valentine?s Day. Can?t wait for the next issue. ? Buddy Schmitz [Editor?s Note:] At this time, mailed subscriptions of Blush are not offered, but please check pg. 12 for more than 500 local distribution venues or visit our website, blushmag.net, to view a complete online version each month. As I was scanning through and enjoying your recent issue of Blush, I was impressed by the way in which you spotlighted where the action is in Chattanooga. Although your content is primarily directed at the ladies, the wonderful way in which it tells about our city is interesting for all of us?me included. ? Jack McDonald write in! We want to know what you think about Blush. Write in to editor1@blushmag.net and give us your feedback!
