LR Restaurant Report Buon appetito à Vinizza I n May, 2008, Vinizza opened its doors on Jean-Talon and became an immediate success. Passion, authenticity and high quality are the main ingredients of its success. A 'back-tobasics' approach coupled with products from the local market gave Vinizza its fresh identity. In 2011, Aldo Vicenzo, Rodi Callegari and Frank Varano decided to open Vinizza Osteria-Enoteca, a second location, on Metcalfe. Vinizza has set itself apart from other Italian restaurants in the downtown sector. It has brought authentic Italian cuisine to a corporate downtown clientele. Aldo's passion for Italian cuisine led him to spend time with mothers, grandmothers and Relais & Château chefs throughout Tuscany and Naples to bring back authentic recipes for his clients to enjoy. On his stay on the Amal Coast, Aldo came across a "Pizzaiolo" who gave him secrets on how to make a real Neapolitan pizza. Today, people look for simplicity and good quality, so the authenticity of the cuisine must be met in each plate. at said, it's not just pasta and 12 LuxuryReportMagazine.com Authentic Italian Flavor Vinizza Osteria-Enoteca on Metcalfe ©www.vinizza.com pizza anymore. At Vinizza, we oer a true cultural experience in each dish, such as our wild boar with papardelle or the pizza funghetti. Vinizza only carries Italian wines, all going back to oering the authentic Italian experience. We have pairings with the menu; you can have wine by the glass, to some of our super Tuscans, or anything in between. Over a glass of vino, Aldo and his artist friend Louis Boudreault framed the design on the theme of La Dolce Vita, so Aldo went back to Italy for inspiration. He actually stayed on the Via Veneto where La Dolce Vita originated, where Sophia Lauren and Marcello Mastroianni would spend their evening sipping Prosseco. is is where most of his inspiration for designing the new restaurant theme came from. Aside from bringing Montreal the best avors from Italy, Vinizza has in the past year established a partnership and commitment to l'Accueil Bonneau. For each main dish sold, a donation to l'Accueil Bonneau is made, to help feed the homeless in the city. Visit www.vinizza.com. CHANTALLE BOTZAS

LR NuEdge Report Between Art and Design Good Art Inspires, Good Design Motivates Contemporary Art, with its wide breadth of scope and eld, has seen nearly a hundred movements including everything from the Abstract Expressionism of the 1950's to the Virtual Art of today. It has embraced, inuenced and transformed everything from canvas to architecture to the technointeractive products of the day. In short, the temptation and opportunity for artists to meander back and forth between the line that separates art from design and mixes both with popular culture has never been greater. Yet, somehow for an artist to be a designer is a corollary seldom realized. e connection between art and design has been a topic of heated debate for some time now. Artists and designers both create visual compositions using a shared knowledge base for entirely dierent reasons and results. Some designers consider themselves artists but few artists consider themselves designers. Perhaps this lies in the way that a work of art starts with a "blank canvas" in the artist's mind, 14 LuxuryReportMagazine.com Design by Amel Chamandy/NUEDGE DESIGN ©Amel Chamandy whereas a designer is given a xed point of entry that may include a concept, an image or an idea. As such, the designer's job can oen forgo the initial and formative stage of conceiving a creation and leap right into the task of integrating a collective that is basically already dened. For the artist, having to forfeit the notion of "creative conception" may be an imposition that is far too restrictive and so is avoided. Occasionally, however, there are those artists who are so trusted or fortunate as to be oered a project where the "creative conception" is theirs for the making. ese are the terms that I am familiar with when I design. ey allow me to use paint, texture, shell, line, pattern, glass, wood, ceramics, and installation to create space with a unique artistic touch that speaks of my creativity. In my latest design project, the simple lines of a kitchen island are extended and transformed with a mosaic of cut glass and platinum leaf inlay along with colored Murano glass. Un ensemble complet! LR Wealth Report The Wealth Report Aer a promising start in the rst quarter, capital markets became increasingly volatile in the second quarter, as Europe's debt crisis escalated again and weaker global economic activity caused investors to be more cautious. In the Eurozone, Greece and Spain were among the chief sources of investor concern. At the end of June, Eurozone leaders reached an agreement that included administering funds directly to struggling banks, rather than funneling the money through member governments. e deal was seen as a very positive development, especially for Spain and its troubled banking system, and prompted a rally on global stock markets. e pace of growth in emerging economies remained relatively strong, with China growing at an estimated 7.5% annually. e Chinese central bank cut interest rates in the second quarter to ensure that this growth rate continued. U.S. growth remained positive, but also slowed in the quarter. One explanation was that the unusually warm winter resulted in economic activity taking place earlier than normal - resulting in a stronger rst quarter and a weaker second quarter. Prices for commodities such as oil and copper dropped in response to the slowdown. e U.S. Federal Reserve, acknowledging the need for continued economic stimulus, extended 16 LuxuryReportMagazine.com Taking a Long-term View its "Operation Twist" bond purchase program to the end of the calendar year. Canada also continued to experience modest economic and employment growth. e renewed uncertainty once again led investors to seek security in higher-quality government bonds, and yields for 10-year U.S. and Canadian bonds dropped to record lows. Several major equity markets lost ground for the period, including Canada's, which is heavily weighted toward commodity producers and nancial services. e benchmark TSX declined 5.7% for the quarter and was down 1.5% for the rst six months of this year. e U.S. equity market remained a bright spot, with the S&P500 declining just 0.8% for the quarter and gaining 9.4% YTD (in Canadian dollars). is reects America's relative stability, and the strength of U.S.-based corporations. is reminds us that healthy, protable, and growing companies abound today, despite the gloomy headlines. For that reason, I believe the best strategy is to take a long-term view, investing with care in a portfolio that is well diversied by asset class, geography, and industry sector, and which suits your tolerance for risk.
