ONE-HALF REVOLUTION OUTPUT (180) Can be used with infinitely variable eccentric crank* for linear slide output (oscillating mechanisms). acceleration/deceleration rollers ONE-THIRD REVOLUTION OUTPUT (120) Provides a 3-stop motion. Works well for a basic dial plate application involving a load, workstation , unload type arrangement. Due to its unique design, the Cyclo -Index Drive requires the lowes t starting, stopping, and peak torques which greatly reduce drive roller contact stresses. The Cyclo-Index drive member employees dual rollers to share acceleratio n and deceleration stresses equal ly. Standard Geneva drives, on the other hand, have only one roller to absorb both stresses. With Cyclo-Index, this stress is unidirectional which greatly extends service life. Wide application experience verifies that, whil e running at equivalent speed of a Geneva drive, the Cyclo-Index can last up to 1O-fold* longer due to reduced fatigue.Again, because of the low torqu e loads with Cyclo-Index drives, vibration, shoc k loads, excessive noise and wear are eliminated. This contributes to faster operation and low upkeep. "In certain applications, users have experienced up to 5 billion maintenancefree index cycles. ONE-FOURTH REVOLUTION OUTPUT (90) For use where 4-stop movements are needed. Provides greater flexibility of index time selection. Ideal replacement for Geneva drives. NOTE: Other multi-revolution (540 0 , 720 0 , 900 0 , etc.) output indexing is available.

    Engineering Information ROTATION - All Cyclo-Index units can be operated in either direction of rotation. The direction of rotation of the output shaft is opposite the direction of rotation of the input .shaft for standard units and tandem units. For compound units and geared units the direction of rotation is the same for the output and input shafts. Standard units can be modified to geared units with 1:1 gearing to provide same relative rotation of output and input shafts. This gearing will require an extra charge and the modification must be specified at time of order. TYPE OF COUPLING OR SPROCKETS TO BE USED - For direct drive operation a torsionally rigid coupling should be used on the input and output shafts of the Cyclo-Index. Flexible type couplings are not recommended. For indirect drive, a taper or split type bushing should be used whenever possible in driving and driven sprockets, gears and cams. OVERHUNG LOADS - Driving and driven elements such as sheaves, sprockets, or cranks mounted on the input and output shafts must be kept within reasonable limits to avoid excessive overhung loads on bearing supports in the unit. In those cases where overhung load is a concern, contact our engineering department for details. If a sprocket and chain drive is used, be sure the chain is tight, but not overly tight to cause overload from excessive tension . LUBRICATION - Units are properly filled with 600 WD. (S.A.E. 140) oil prior to shipment. Relubrication is seldom, if ever, required. After the unit has been in operation, the oil seals should be inspected periodically for signs of oil leakage. OPERATING SPEED - The maximum permissible operating speed is limited only by the inertia (WK 2 ) in the driven equipment. The combination of inertia and speed must result in a torque value not exceeding the output torque rating of the Cyclo-Index selected. Formulas used to determine the maximum permissible inertia for a given speed are given on page 10. TORQUE CAPACITY - The torque at any speed should not exceed the output torque rating of the Cyclo-Index unit as listed in the table of torque ratings on pages 15 & 16. Formulas for calculating the output torque are given on page 10. See Options section for additional capacity tandem units. OPTIONS - Cyclo- Index units can be supplied with the following options: Input and output shafts located on the same side of the housing - no extra charge for nonstock orders prior to manufactu ring but must be specified at time of order. Special shafts - non standard lengths, double extended - special mounting holes available on special order, consult engineer ing for details. MOTIONS AVAILABLE - The tables list the indexing motions that are available for the standard , compound and geared Cyclo-Index models. The tables show the motions obtained for the input and output shafts for each index cycle and list the velocity , acceleration and input torque factors for those models. The data listed for each model applies to all housing series for that model. 5
